Step 1

Verify that all rear lamps are functioning properly.

Remove rear trim panel to gain access to the tail light wiring harnesses.

Remove four retaining nuts from each tail light assembly using an 11mm or 7/16" deep well socket.

Beneath one of the nuts there may be a thin, flat assembly nut. Insert a knife blade under the assembly nut and pry apart.
Insert screwdriver tip between gap and break assembly nut. Remove with pliers and discard.

Remove the right and left tail light assembly and set face down on a towel on top of the bumper.

Do not disconnect the tail light harness connectors.

Step 2

On the three lamps of each side both the middle and outer stop/turn lamp wires terminate into one terminal pin at the lamp harness connector which will need to be isolated and identified as follows.

Left Hand (Drivers) Side:
Cut one of the pair of green/orange wires 1" from the connector at the lamp side of the harness.
Strip 1/4" of insulation from both cut wire ends.
Crimp a new butt splice included in the kit onto the wire coming out of the connector.

Turn on the 4-way emergency flashers.
Label or mark the cut wire (the one without the splice) on the lamp side of the harness, either "M" for middle or "O" for outer depending on which lamp is NOT flashing. Turn off the 4-way flashers.

Cut the other green/orange wire 1" from the connector at the lamp side of the harness.
Strip 1/4" of insulation from both cut wire ends.
Crimp a butt splice onto the wire coming out of the connector.

Label or mark the cut wire (the one without the splice) on the lamp side of the harness, either "M" or "O" depending on which lamp WAS flashing. The butt splices installed in this step will not be connected to anything.

Step 3

Crimp the sequencer module orange wire splice to the lamp harness wire labeled "M".

Crimp the sequencer module yellow wire splice to the lamp harness wire labeled "O".

Remove the inner lamp socket (the large socket with 2 wires) and remove the rubber seal surrounding the wires.

With a small sharp knife, cut a small slit in the rubber harness grommet. Insert long nosed pliers through the slit to the opposite side of the grommet, cut a small slit where the pliers tip appears. Push pliers further through then grab the terminal end of the long red wire and pull the wire through the grommet.

Insert the terminal into the empty slot of the lamp socket. Push in until fully seated and even with the factory terminal ends.

Cut a slit in the seal to accommodate the red wire then reinstall seal. Secure the red wire to the harness with a small tie wrap included with the kit or tape the wire to the harness. Reinstall the lamp socket into the housing.

Pull red wire through grommet   Insert terminal into slot

Step 4

With a Scotch-Lock included in the kit, splice the red sequencer module wire to the single green/orange body harness wire.

With another Scotch-Lock, splice the black sequencer module wire to the solid black body harness wire.

Step 5

Right Hand (Passenger) Side:

Repeat steps 2,3 and 4 for the right hand side using the orange/blue pair of wires.

Step 6

Reinstall the tail lamp assemblies into position. Switch on hazard flasher. Verify lamps for proper inner, middle and outer lighting sequence.

If either of the inner lamps do not light, check the inner lamp terminal for proper insertion, attempt to insert the terminal further into the socket. Check for proper or burnt bulb.

If the lamps light out of sequence recheck the orange and yellow connections. Swap lamp sockets if necessary. Oftentimes a dirty emergency flasher switch can cause erratic or out of sequence operation, to correct: spray the area under the emergency flasher button with WD40 or equivalent, apply liberally with a long spray tube while operating the switch several times.

If all lamps are functioning in the correct sequence then reinstall the tail lamp nuts and rear trim.
